Q and A with Dr Samantha Seymour author of Sometimes I Feel

What is the key message of your book?

Sometimes I Feel…aims to help children to gain an understanding of what different emotions look like and feel like. This is the very first step in emotional development, and once children understand this concept, they can then go on to develop strategies to positively express those emotions and manage them. Sometimes I Feel…helps children to develop these crucial skills. In addition to this, Sometimes I Feel…aims to send the message that it is normal to experience a range of emotions and that we have the ability to control them, rather than allowing them to control us.

What inspires you to write?

I experienced a huge sense of achievement when writing Sometimes I Feel…It felt fantastic knowing that I was creating something that would have the potential to help children’s emotional development. When writing Sometimes I Feel…I woke up every morning with that little buzz you get when something really exciting and good is happening.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about any issues relating to children’s wellbeing. Within my private practice I see first hand how children are affected by various aspects of their environment. What an individual experiences in their childhood has the potential to continue to shape their lives throughout adulthood. Too often, I see adult clients who are deeply affected by issues that stem from their childhoods.
