Dr John Irvine is widely known through his radio broadcasts, newspaper columns, Internet advice and his successful books, Who'd Be a Parent?, A Handbook for Happy Families and Thriving at School. Formerly a school teacher, school counselor and lecturer on behaviour management, he is now director and consultant psychologist at his READ clinic in Gosford, NSW.Over many years he has achieved a national following for his radio segment, 'Coping with Kids', with over 3000 episodes now recorded.

That everyone can live a better life, and enjoy more happiness, by practicing the principles of positive psychology as outlined in The Happiness Handbook. In fact, achieving happiness requires nothing more than practising a few simple disciplines every day.

How did you come to write the book?
Several years ago, Bob Brown suggested drawing up a list of moral precepts that were relevant to humanity's current situation. I wasn't enthusiastic until I realised that principles could be presented as challenges rather than as dos and don'ts. Once I began writing, the book acquired a life of its own.
What inspires you to write?

Sometimes I Feel…aims to help children to gain an understanding of what different emotions look like and feel like. This is the very first step in emotional development, and once children understand this concept, they can then go on to develop strategies to positively express those emotions and manage them. Sometimes I Feel…helps children to develop these crucial skills.

Media literacy gives our children greater control over media than banning it ever will.
Great stories. Humanity has always told stories, from paintings on cave walls to plays and novels to short films and new media. Those stories are how we share who we are, where we belong, what we believe. I have always loved sharing stories. Stories are always in my work.

Though there are many outside forces exerting pressure on our girls, we mothers are powerful role models for our daughters and can help them grow up feeling good about their bodies — at any age.
I’ve always been a writer, but this book was inspired by my desire to not pass along the negative body feelings I grew up with to my teenage daughter. I want her to grow up feeling content with being the healthiest version of herself.

The key message of Bouncing Back is that everyone is faced with setbacks, but, with some effort, these can be overcome or at least ameliorated. They can also offer us hard-won insights and lead to new and positive directions in our lives.

That in many cases, the reasons for a couple’s ‘infertility’ may not be entirely physical. Taking a holistic approach, which includes your emotional health, is the turning point for many couples on their fertility journey.

The idea for the website, which was designed as place for childless people to go, grew from Justine’s most recent book: ‘A Inconceivable Notion’.

Last night (Monday, 10th May 2010), Uncle Max (Max Dulumunmun Harrison) captivated an audience of approximately one-hundred people in Mona Vale with a talk focusing on his new book, My People’s Dreaming and some of its underlying messages. It was a great opportunity to hear his insight on political issues and how they in turn relate back to Aboriginal ways and in particular, spirituality.

3rd June 2010: Last night's dreary weather didn't dampen the spirits of Sydneysiders who came in droves of more than 900(!) to see 'Uncle Max' speak about his new book, My People's Dreaming at WakeUp Sydney, Town Hall.
Uncle Max, Rex Finch and two kind helpers were kept on their toes by a long queue of fans wanting a signed copy of My People's Dreaming.
