Sometimes I Feel...

Although it is natural for children to feel emotions such as being worried, sad, angry or shy, at times they can be overwhelming. Parents, too, can wonder how to help their child cope with these difficult emotions.

Sometimes I Feel … is an imaginative and highly visual book, created by clinical psychologist Dr Samantha Seymour, and designed for parents to read with their young children (aged 2 - 7). It combines sensitively photographed stories of children who feel worried, shy, angry or sad with information for parents on ways to help their children acknowledge and handle these feelings.

Dr Samantha Seymour writes: ‘Research shows that children who can understand and cope with emotions do better in school, form stronger relationships, have fewer behavioural problems and generally lead happier, healthier and less stressful lives.’

‘With its expressive photos, simple captions and practical advice, [Sometimes I Feel] offers a wonderful vehicle for adult and child to explore this vital emotional landscape together.’ Jenni Connor, former national president of the Children’s Book Council of Australia and member of the Publications Committee for Early Childhood Australia (ECA)

‘Children often feel devastated when confronted with an emotion that is too overwhelming for words. By identifying these feelings, showing what they look like and feel like and how to handle them, Samantha Seymour is doing a great service for families that care about kids!’ Dr John Irvine, author of A Handbook for Happy Families and Thriving at School

‘This is an indispensible guide to dealing with young children’s emotions … I strongly recommend it to parents as a valuable resource to keep at home.’ Lyn Woolley, CEO Stewart Child Care Services
